Re: Really Slow QB Problem Help Needed

I inherited a team with a really really good QB in everything other than speed. I know pass protection is bad right now and my line is decent but the QB speed is like 16 or so. He was sacked like 12 times with my usual gameplan (he also has a slightly hobbled ankle), so I was wondering if I could do something to counteract it. I have a faster backup who isnt as good but faster. I'm also thinking maybe short passes instead of medium and long passes could avoid sacks. He's really good and an impending free agent so I'm trying to get it to work so if anyone has any thoughts pls let me know. He's in MFN 65 in case anybody wanted to check

Short passes are the best bet, it is still not as effective against the blitz as it should be. I think it's being addressed. Other than that high scrambling rating trumps speed, but in the end, it could be that your guy just is a sack magnet.

I have the same problem in 9 with a 4 year starter .. I got a rookie that's fast and he really outperformed the vet in training camp. I'm either thinking a lower fatigue and get them rotating or installing short passes like previously suggested.

only problem i have seen in the short passes is most of the routes come back at you. so you only get 2 or 3 yds on most or a neg play

Some yes, however I've come to see a few of my better WR take a 7 yd curl and turn it into big gains. I'm starting to warm up to that play in a few leagues.

Maybe shotgun only passing? I was planning to try it out this game and see if it works. A lot of these plays also have a RB in pass protection which I feel will definitely help. But let's see.

Trade/cut him and sign a QB with 90+ SP. Even if that QB has <40 accuracy, you're still better off.

I wouldn't be so quick to cut ties... the new game engine will likely improve QB play. You should definitely try to find a fast QB in the interim, but it's definitely worth stashing slow but gifted QBs for when the code changes.

I haven't really seen slow QBs being better in MFN-1. In fact, all logic says that fast QBs should still be better than slow QBs, especially fast accurate QBs like this one: https://mfn1.myfootballnow.com/player/10626

Here's the logical break down:
1) Pass blocking should be improved in the next code change, which means that there will be fewer sacks altogether. This actually benefits fast QBs more than slow ones because...
2) Fast QBs will still be able to escape "under pressure" situations. Since these under pressure situation will be much more critical since there will be fewer sacks, fast QBs become that much more valuable, especially if they have accuracy because...
3) Accuracy (and Arm) will improve QBs TD:INT ratios, and since fast QBs should rarely be under pressure, they will be more accurate still than slow QBs.

In sum, I wouldn't keep a slow QB even if he had 100 Accuracy, Arm, and Look Off.

These are my 2 qbs:
https://mfn65.myfootballnow.com/player/166
https://mfn65.myfootballnow.com/player/3779

I tried 2 games with a slightly hobbled trudeau, one with my normal gp and one with a shotgun only passing gameplan. First game took 12 sacks (lol) and second game only 2 with the shotgun only game (granted the team i played had 0 sacks their previous game). So i have no clue lol if it helps yet or not and i decided to bench my weak link at lt my first round pick for a veteran (less strength but 100 pass blocking), whose links i provided below:
